Press Releases, Identity Theft and E-Gold

We would like to apologize to E-Gold Ltd and its partner companies for an recent article we posted titled E-Gold Files For Bankruptcy. Based on a new article posted at the E-Gold.com blog titled Fraudulent “Press Release” and accompanying DDoS attacks it appears that someone had fraudulently posted the original press release at the PRLog.com site. Based on our recent research the press release that made the announcement now displays a page not found message when viewed.

This is a great story to highlight the topic of identity theft, in this case it was someone stealing the identity of E-Gold and publishing a story to misinform people.  Nowadays we assume the information were getting from television, the radio and even the Internet is always accurate.  I don’t care if your an individual or a business especially if your doing business online, invest in a website copy protection tool like Copyscape.com and perform regular searches of the Internet to monitor what is being said about you.

Remember the original article I read that peaked my interest on this story I received from Google News, they get a lot of their news stories from different sources from around the web.  Just remember that Internet news is not always edited prior to its release, this often happens with press releases.  Traditional newspapers usually have a more stringent validation process prior to an new story gets printed in their publication.  The good thing about the web is you can quickly get a story pulled and limit any damage vs a traditional publication where the story might go viral.  This leads to it being spread unchecked only to inflict severe damage to your company image before a rescinded story can be published in the next days paper.
