What is the going rate for a bankruptcy lawyer?

Has anyone filed bankruptcy recently, i went to go see an attorney and he wanted 300.00 for a filing fee and 1200.00 for attorney fees is that the rate for a bankruptcy attorney nowdays?

    Pretty much, between 1200 and 2000…

    The filing fee is set by the court. The attorney fee is pretty standard.

    that is cheap — the filing fee is correct but most lawyers will run you 1500- 2000!!!!

    SLOW DOWN!!!!! You might not need to declare bankruptcy yet! There is a other way. You can have a someone negotiate on your behalf to pay the crediters a percentage of the outstanding debt and he/she will take a cut from the negotiation. (usually it is between 15 – 25% of the outstanding debt) much better for your credit rating then a bankruptcy!
